Partial sun loving border

My client has only a few hours of the morning sun and she did not know what to plant there. So I designed this beautiful plant combination to brighten up shaded garden corner. Blooming flowers will attract butterflies and birds.  In summer this partial sun loving border will look romantic. In fall time ornamental grasses will provide outstanding foliage color, providing some drama.

The principle of this composition is creating a contrast,  playing with the texture of the plants. Ornamental grasses have narrow, fine textured leaves. Large hosta leaves have coarse textured. Fluffy white long spikes of actaea racemosa at the background create some accent while blooming asters flowers at the front make the shape smoother.

The texture can also refer to the smoothness or roughness on the surface of each leaf. Contrasting size and surface textures provide drama  in the garden when it’s done well. Alternatively, repeating similar leaf sizes and textures may provide a soothing or harmonious look.

❗️So many people have shadow parts in their garden and cannot grow anything there. A very common gardening error is to think that a plant that "tolerates" shade will grow in complete dense shade. This is not true, as horticulturists define a "part shade" plant as one that requires 2 to 4 hours of direct sunlight each day.1 If you have a location with dense, full shade that gets no direct sunlight at all, make sure to choose plants rated for such locations.
