Tram depot park

Tram depot park is a conceptual landscape design project that will be situated in Almaty, Kazakhstan.  With the increasing car traffic congestion in the city , the using of the trams has become inefficient public transport. As a result the old tram depot was closed by the city municipality. The old tram depot with a huge territory was decided to transform into the city park, saving and renovating existing buildings.

Park territory will be separated by the zones of activities: dining area, theater area, sport area, workshop and exhibition area, playground, co-working area. The old tramways will be left in the park and they will be partly sown by meadow lawn, and partly covered by gravel. List of the plants includes resistant and low maintenance species that would perfectly fit the local climate needs. They are: grasses - Cancrinia, Linaria dolichoceras, Hordeum Bulbosum, Salvia officinalis, Vicia tenuifolia; flowering plants and shrubs- Cotinus coggygria, Cylindrocarpa sewerzowii, Sambucus nigra, Krascheninnikovia ceratoides, Spirea; trees -Acer, Tilia, Eurasian aspen, Ulmus glabra.

This park is absolutely thematic place. Trams’ interiors were transformed into stylish cafe , summer pavilions were made from wooden train- wagons,  sidewalks accompanied by old tramways invites park’s visitors to discover the area.   The tram was always well- known symbol of the public transport in Almaty. This project will bring that historical place back to life, adapting it for modern needs.
