This Spring the municipality of the Urban district Amsterdam West announced an open competition of the project to improve the West district. I have submitted my plan ”Recreation area at Postjeskade. Pedestrian paths with the water gardens along the waterways” and the result pleasantly surprised me. I thank you everyone who voted for my project and supported it with your likes and comments. I also would like to thank those who left few negative reviews. That’s always great to know the opposite opinion and what is really worrying other people. And today I would like to highlight it.
The dislikes were mostly complains about possible noises and potential thievery to the residential area. Between the pathwalk and walls of the building, I expect a gap, which will prevent easy access to the building. The noise will be mitigated with the reeds and other long plants on the sides of the pathwalk. In fact, with the plants and sidewalk I would expect the overall noise level dropped due to better acoustic parameters.
What benefits would have the Residents:
- will have an access to the canal with a beautiful panoramic view where they could have a rest after busy working day.
-will have seating places along the canal.
-will be able take the sun bathes during the sunny days.
-will have eco -friendly green environment which increases biodiversity.
- will interact with the nature.
-will have aesthetically attractive area with lots of greenery.
-will have a noise protection from outside thank to tall water plants line.
- will have extra protective green barrier to prevent potential penetrations of bulgaries from the broadwalk side.
-will have an area free of crowds, noisy motor boats.
As a garden designer and landscape architect I was looking for a chance to improve the living environment in Amsterdam, to make it a better place for residents and unforgettable place for the guests of the city. I want to believe that one day the municipality will find a budget to realize this engineering project.
