Designing a vegetable garden, Bordeaux, France

Starting this garden design project was both interesting and unusual because my clients wanted not only flower beds but also to grow vegetables. They have a keen interest in gardening, and their garden has become a space for experimentation. To support their interest, I decided to incorporate fruit trees and a vegetable row into the site.

I already knew that my clients preferred natural materials such as stone, wood, and clay, so I used these materials throughout the project. The most challenging aspect was an area with shade, a few shrubs, and constant moisture, which provided a haven for mosquitoes. We needed to eliminate them.

The first step was to clean up the garden and manage the density of greenery in that spot to allow it to dry out. Afterward, we discussed which plants would help keep mosquitoes away.

The garden itself is very sunny, so to encourage more time spent outdoors, I suggested implementing a pergola where my clients could find refuge from the hot summer sun. To add more intrigue, I decided to use stepping stones surrounded by gravel. Walking through this garden feels like a journey of discovery. On your left, you will find a stone bench adorned with climbing roses, while on the other side, old broken clay pots serve as charming decorations. The garden is completed with fragrant flowers and cozy furniture, creating a delightful space to enjoy and create very welcoming atmosphere.
